Talking the wife into this: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
2018 Charger SXT, 40k miles, factory bumper to bumper warranty to 100k. They’re asking $17,975 for it.
I drove it Friday after work and I loved it. Great ride, quiet, plenty of power. SO MUCH WANT.

too new for you isn’t it?

Safety, comfort, good mpgs. Logical choice.

I rented a black one just like that when I was in between cars. The one I crave had AWD with the base V6. So even though it was technically the slowest version, I found it had plenty of power.
I’ve read Some saying the automatic isn’t that great, but I thought it was perfectly fine.
I averaged about 10L/100km.
I liked it a lot too though it was a little on the big side for me given I’m one of those city slickers.
The only issues I had was the sat-nav system sometimes change the station on its own when hitting a bump in cold weather.
And I ran into an issue where the car would not let me shift it out of neutral... which resulted in a tow. Apparently a weak/defective battery can cause that I was told.

You are gonna swap the Pentastar from this into one of your Caravans, isn’t it?
Seriously, its got a great warranty , its comfortable, big and fast enough to get out of its own way.

April Fools?

I’m pretty sure the 7yr/100k mi warranty is powertrain only. At least that’s what I was told when I looked at one the other day. The “bumper to bumper” is 3yr 36k
![]() 04/01/2019 at 08:20 |

That’s really high miles for a 2018. Did they live in it?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 08:28 |
|
they’re pretty underrated cars actually... roomy, comfy, quick and even a bit fun to drive.

What part do you need help with? Is she opposed to the price or the fact that it's not a van? Or does she just think that you don't need another vehicle?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 08:40 |

If its an April Fools joke, I laughed. If it isn’t, its a good find! I alw ays thought the base trims of these looked really soft. Without the RT or SRT bumpers and trim, they look doughy. At least a small decklid spoiler will help

TIL a Charger was considered underrated...lol what
![]() 04/01/2019 at 08:51 |

In other words, this one at 40k miles already is ready to torment its next owner?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 09:09 |

Idk not sure if these really have any issues to worry about.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 09:14 |

My only comment on these is: if it has a sunroof I have a hard time sitting in the passenger seat for more than 30 min. I have a torso that is much too long.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 09:27 |
|
LOL April Fools. We know you only buy old Caravans.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 09:32 |

Tell her it’s so much safer. Not a bad deal really and the v6 moves these things pretty good. Is the extended warranty third party?
My wife talked me into this on Saturday.
Full report coming soon

The warranty is offered through the dealer. 7yr/100k bumper to bumper.
She doesn’t want a car payment, which I don’t disagree with, but I have been spending a lot on what we have lately, so it would be a wash in the end.

False:

Interesting. No sunroof, but I found it quite roomy for a modern car.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:06 |

It’s really not a joke. I wish I could talk her into it.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:07 |

Pretty sure those are reskinned Caravans, bro.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:07 |

She doesn’t want a car payment again. I don’t disagree, but I’ve been spending a lot on what we have lately, so it’d likely be a wash.

It was a really nice driving car.

Getting old....
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:09 |

I see no need for AWD honestly. If the roads are that bad, I’d take the van anyway.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:10 |

Na, too much work.
Honestly just craving a nice comfy daily/run-about. Always had a soft spot for the Chargers.

Nope.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:11 |

7yr/100k mi bumper to bumper is offered through the dealer. It’s a $100 deductible.

The Chargers/Challengers are pretty trouble free from what I’ve found.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:13 |
|
It was a fleet vehicle from an insurance agency from what I was told, so it racked up a lot of miles.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:17 |
|
Chargers are great for that purpose. They also look really good, to me.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:18 |
|
I mean, if you can comfortably afford it, do what you must. Wonder why she doesn’t want a payment though?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:22 |
|
Maybe it would be helpful to compile a summary of everything that you spent last year to keep your fleet on the road. Show her that just because you didn't have a car payment doesn't mean that you didn't spend money on cars. And account for your time too. How many hours did you spend wrenching and sourcing parts?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:35 |
|
I like the charger, I’ve had them as rental cars. I do how
ever feel that $18k is a bit steep for a car with 45,000 miles on it.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:41 |
|
If it is really nice to drive, let her drive it. Even just getting her to sit in it might help her appreciate how nice it is.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:57 |
|
Its a hell of a lot safer in a crash than the other vehicles you drive .
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:58 |
|
I love the stormtrooper car.
What you need to do is get out your receipts and figure out the costs on your current vehicles vs the cost of buying this one. Also, what are you thinking of selling to accommodate this? That could tilt the equation in its favor.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:58 |
|
Looks like a decent deal even with that mileage (which shouldn’t be a big issue with a Pentastar Charger).
I enjoyed my time in an 18 SXT rental I had for a road trip. Super comfortable, quiet, and retuned damn near 31 mpg which is downright impressive for it’s size.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 10:58 |
|
Yeah... I agree. And if you ever have to tow it, the AWD versions are more expensive to tow because they have to be towed with all 4 wheels off the ground.
If it was my money, I would pick the RWD one over AWD as well.
And the RWD ones weigh a bit less and get a bit better fuel economy.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 11:32 |
|
Doesnt look bad and hell of alot of car for $18k. Im not a fan of the Pentastar, but they are like the GM 3.6l V6, i ts in everything.
One thing to definitely try to point out is those tires, they look to be getting low tread wise. Again only can see from photos but they look like they have 40k+ on them
![]() 04/01/2019 at 11:36 |
|
I wish you luck but I’ve found no matter what I think my wife would want for a car; she has other plans.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 11:58 |
|
We’re usually on the same page when it comes to this stuff, or at least able to find a middle ground.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:00 |
|
I hate the Pentastar in the vans, but in the cars with the 8-speed they seem well matched.
It has been detailed and had brand new Firehawks put on it since those pictures. It looks like a brand new car inside/outside/under hood.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:02 |

The Acclaim would be removed from the equation, but given it’s not worth much, I would just give it to my nephew as he’s already expressed interest in it.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:03 |
|
Only if I crash......... ;)
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:07 |

It’s been really nice not having one, plus we’ve just been sticking away the money from the truck payment since we paid it off over a year ago, so we’re acquiring a decent amount of money.
The ultimate plan is to save enough to put down a good payment on a different house, which a car payment would detract from.
Likewise, we can easily put $5-7k down on it, which will put our payments around $150/month on a 4 yr loan. We pay $300/month, it’ll be paid off in 2 yrs. Then we’ll have a paid for car still under warranty and still be able to save for the house.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:10 |
|
This is a good idea.
Maybe seeing how much time I spend in the garage + what I’ve spent already this year would be a big eye opener. Plus it would show her I’m not just kicking tires, I seriously want to spend less time in the garage.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:12 |
|
Eh, it seems cheap for a 2018 around here. $17k is usually 2015 with 100k money in this area.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:23 |
|
Any plans to thin out the fleet so you aren't just adding yet another vehicle?
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:26 |
|
I would give the Acclaim to my nephew. He’s looking for something fun/unique for his first car and he loves it more than I do, so I’d just give it to him.
I may even think about selling the 92 Caravan, because at that point a 3rd vehicle wouldn’t be needed.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:34 |
|
Nothing wrong with giving a car to a relative as long as they understand that any future expenses are on them. Sure, help him fix it but he needs to pay for those parts.
The more you can simplify the fleet, the easier it should be to get the wife on board.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 12:43 |

That’s not always in your control.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 13:16 |

I have only been in an SUV or Van with the P entastar and just felt underpowered. Car could be a different story.
And ah ok if its got new tires on it, 100% worth it.
![]() 04/01/2019 at 16:05 |

I know the Grand Caravan with the Penta feels fine at WOT, but the trans tuning/lack of low end torque make it feel sluggish under normal driving. I think the 8 speed in the Charger/Challenger helps alleviate that a lot. The Charger felt smooth and seemless in it’s power delivery.
